Matthew 3:16-17 “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Scriptural baptism is vital. It seems all too often we as Baptists downplay the importance of baptism. We live in a culture that some say baptism saves you or baptism looks this way or that way. The Greek word “baptizo,” as it’s used in scripture, means to immerse. Scriptural baptism, the same baptism that Jesus participated in, is to be fully submerged under the water. It shows an important and beautiful picture. Just as our savior died, was buried, and rose again baptism is to show the Gospel of Christ. It is a public proclamation of us dying to our old selves, buried with Christ, and rise to walk with Christ.
Baptism does not save. However, baptism is vital. It is our first step of obedience to Christ after salvation. We cannot fully follow God as His child if we do not follow Him in scriptural baptism and join one of His local New Testament Churches. It’s my prayer you’ve done that! If you haven’t, Holly Springs would love to have you here! Feel free to talk to me about it if you have any questions!
God bless you for being here today!
Join us in worshipping Jesus!
