Putting On the New You

Today is a special guest post from sister Heather Fry

“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:  For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:  Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.  Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3: 3-16, King James Version).

This was part of my Bible reading this morning.

This is the time of year that a lot of people that may not give Jesus a second thought throughout the year, some may actually stop for at least a moment, and have a thought of Jesus.

But we as Christians have a responsibility to share Jesus each and every day of our life. Whether it be by word of mouth or our actions. We have all heard that actions speak louder than words, and that our lives may be the only Bible someone may read. That’s true.

With that being said, as I was reading my Bible readings I read Colossians 3. This is speaking of putting on the new self. That IS ME & YOU that are believers. We as Christians are to be dead in ourself and raised in the newness of life, meaning, once we profess Jesus and are saved, we should not only follow him but ACT like him.

I fail in this area a lot. I was convicted as I read the following passage. I felt compelled to share it, in case another fellow Christian maybe struggling or maybe has struggled and is now living the way Christ would have them to live. I’m trying and by God’s grace and mercy, I am trying to “put on my new self” more each and every day.

Take time to read this part of the passage and I hope that it will encourage you to be and do better as well.

Jesus was born to die for each and every person in the world. Past, present and future. He did the hard part. The least we can do is live for Him and act the way He would want us to, to show Him in our lives so others may see what we have and want it.

We should love, not hate others. We may not all like everyone, and that’s ok. Personalities are different, but we are commanded to love and forgive one another. Sometimes that’s not easy, I understand. I have been and am guilty of that, but I am trying with God’s help!
